Strictly Come Dancing 2015; Week 1 (Friday) – Music
Here’s a short review of the music played during the first part of this week’s Strictly Come Dancing Show.
Anthony Ogogo and Oti Mabuse – Jive to ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’. The rhythm and tempo of the original by Wham! (41bpm)* make it a great choice for a jive.
Kellie Bright and Kevin Clifton – International Tango to ‘You Really Got Me’. You may find the original by The Kinks (35bpm) a little fast.
Carol Kirkwood and Pasha Kovalev – Cha Cha to ‘Thunder in My Heart’. The original by Leo Sayer (32bpm) is a disco classic and a good cha cha. The 2006 remixed version of this song by Meck (ft Leo Sayer) was a No1 dance hit in the UK.
Anita Rani and Gleb Savchenko – Cha Cha to “Rather Be”. This upbeat huge international hit by Clean Bandit (feat. Jess Glynne) (30bpm) is a great choice for a Wedding First dance. The lyrics are so appropriate . . . . But as long as you are with me, there’s no place I’d rather be . . . .As long as we’re together, there’s no place I’d rather be
Daniel O’Donnell and Kristina Rihanoff – Waltz to ‘When Irish Eyes Are Smiling’ . This song has been recorded by a number of artists including Bing Crosby, Roger whittacker, Anne Shelton and Connie Francis. The version recorded by Ruby Murray is appropriate for a fast Waltz.
Helen George and Aljaz Skorjanec – Waltz to ‘With You I’m Born Again’. The original by Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright is a lovely Slow Waltz (27bpm); you may prefer to skip the long intro and start with a clearer beat. The version by Lulu & Marti Pellow (27bpm) is an excellent choice for dancing a Slow Waltz. A wonderful song for a First Wedding Waltz.
